Midwest Native Plan Conference

Public Welcome Paid Event

The 6th Annual Midwest Native Plant Conference will be held on August 1, 2 & 3, 2014, at the Bergamo Conference Center located on the beautiful grounds of the 300 acre Mount Saint John Preserve in Dayton, Ohio. The Conference features keynote presentations from top naturalists from around the country, informative workshops and breakout sessions, and morning and evening field trips on Friday and Saturday. Sunday offers expert led field trips to some interesting natural areas rich in native plants and diversity. Conference vendors will be open to the public on Saturday, August 2, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm with a great selection of native plants, artwork, jewelry, books and other items designed to connect you with nature.

Tour Natives in Harmony, a nursery specializing in the propagation and sale of native Ohio plants in the central Ohio area. Native Plants will be available for purchase on this tour! Gale Martin and Dan Grau, owners of Natives in Harmony, operate on the belief that their customers' needs are of the utmost importance. As a result, a high percentage of the business is from repeat customers and referrals. They welcome the chance to show how using Ohio native plants in the landscape can save you money; provide great wildlife habitat and less yard work. TIME: 10 am TO CARPOOL: meet at 8:45 am at the Indianola Park and Ride. To get to the Park and Ride from Rt 71 south: Get off at Morse Road and turn right At the first light which is Indianola make a left. Pull into parking lot on left side. From Rt 71 north: Get off at Morse Road turn left and go to Indianola and turn left. Pull into the parking lot on the left.

Green Roof Tour & Discussion by Megan Meier at The Ohio State University Chadwick Arboretum & Learning Gardens

As one of only four certified Green Roof Professionals in the state of Ohio, Megan Meier has five years experience in the green roof industry and has been involved in more than 10 green roof projects, including the Chadwick Arboretum green roof at Howlett Hall, the first publicly accessible green roof at The Ohio State University. Beginning in 2010, Ms. Meier led the University through the pre-design phase, assisting with site analysis and a thorough preliminary design. Megan also represented the University through the bidding and construction process and helped to secure and EPA grant for more than $100,000. Ms. Meier continues to serve as a liaison for outreach and education at OSU and provides maintenance services for the green roof. A 60-acre public garden at The Ohio State University. In 2013, Chadwick installed the first 2,000 sq-ft green roof retrofit green roof on campus, an exciting project to demonstrate green roof benefits to students and the community. Located at Howlett Hall, home to the OSU Department of Horticulture & Crop Sciences and the Food Science Processing Plant.
