Celebrating Ted Chaney

Posted on | Uncategorized

Ted Chaney passed away on October 9 at age 94.

Right away, anybody who met Ted saw that he was light-hearted and friendly. At the last Wild Ones chapter board meeting, when the discussion turned to finding a bank that could better serve the chapter’s needs, he volunteered to go get information.

“Let’s go together. Then it can be two of us that forget the details.”

He showed up at the Westerville Library Sustainability Fair and chatted up us at the Wild Ones table. He chatted with people all around the room.

He made an appearance at the garden tour, wearing a Cadillac t-shirt and jeans – holding on with one person or another.

When introducing me to who Ted was in the organization: “Ted had been our treasurer, but he finally passed it on to someone else. Now he can take a vacation. He was treasurer for the longest time, and never could take a break!” That must mean we’ve seen the last of Ted? Nope! He was back at the next meeting.

That’s how Ted was. Constantly giving his time; lifting people up with jokes and conversation; tirelessly active in his community.

In his honor, his family has asked for donations to go to the Wild Ones Columbus Chapter or the Red Cross.

Here are a few snapshots of him. I think they capture him unaware that his photo was being taken, in his element. Take a moment and read Ted’s obituary in The Westerville News.
